Textile finishing a nish is any process that is done to bres, yarns, or fabrics whether before or after fabrication to change the appearance, handle, or performance. Nishes can be added to improve : aesthetic quality - in uencing appearance or fabric handle a speci c fabric performance property - known as functional nish. Mechanical finishes - in uencing the fabric surface calendering: produces smooth and lustrous fabric surfaces, more supple hand, or to make fabric more compact - opaque - by applying heavy pressure. Fabrics passed through rollers, sometimes heated calendering is durable when resins added or applied to thermoplastic fabrics other nishes in conjunction with calendering: Chemical finishes chemically nished textiles are textiles that have been subjected to chemical compounds changing inherent chemical properties of the bres the chemicals: May adhere to the bre surfaces and form a battier or coating. May be absorbed into the bre, where it may or may not react with bre polymers.
