HECOL170 Lecture Notes - Lecture 23: Fabric Structure, Duvet, Sandpaper
Document Summary
Textilis" - to weave the term textiles now applies to: Natural or man made and most products for which they are the principle raw material. Textiles are materials characterized as planar structures consisting of yarns or bres" planar structure - two dimension, so thin relative to length and width, technically 3d but think of the fabric and 2d and the created object 3d. Usually porous material - allow water vapour and air to penetrate, draw in moisture. Relatively thin and exible materials - some high performance textiles are objections to this, like bre glass at times. Fibre small diameter & length at least 100 times the diameter, be useful in creating a textile. Staple - short bres, about 3-30 cm in length. Lament - continuous strand synthetic bres and silks are produced as laments initially but can be cut and used as staple.
