Leather production leather, the oldest material known to man, is animal skin which, by tanning, is transformed into things such as garments, shoes, luggage and furniture. Demand - mega trends there is a dramatic increase in the world population and consequently also in the demand for leather goods, especially shoes. Global leather goods industry estimated to reach close to usd 247 billion by 2019 historically, about 65% of leather went into footwear, but this proportion has been decreasing lately toward 55% other factors driving demand: household growth. 2. global production of other leather uses include: garments, bags, luggages, auto industry, furniture and ooring the automobile upholstery sector has been exceptionally strong since about 1990 increasing number of car owners. It is important that leather substitutes can offer completely consistent surface appearance and while they might offer advanced properties in selected areas, the combination of unique leather properties in prestige products is very signi cant.
