Bene ts of small group work & challenges to overcome as you develop your program plan. Develop important skills as group work is common in school, in the workplace. Inexperience & discomfort in negotiating con icts among peers. Need to balance demands of task completion and group cohesion (relationships) Con ict during task discussion causes stress; must be released through positive, relational talk. Series of stages: opinion exchange values, underlying decision to making the decision. Most talkative group member makes 40-50% of comments, 2nd most talkative person. Conclusion: regardless of size, group tend to be dominated by 1 or 2 members to the detriment of the others. Zealot/special-interest pleader feel so strongly about a certain position and feel that they are right. Put up barriers because they feel the whole thing is stupid. Feel the need to share their life history with the group. Explicit and implicit rules about how to act in a group.
