Document Summary
Why are we looking at the change process and theories process. A rational, logical, dynamic process for designing programs/initiatives that aim to e ect change and build capacity of individuals and families and communities. Usually a process rather than a single event. Activated by an alteration in beliefs, thoughts, values or behaviours. People have varying levels of motivation/readiness to change. Individuals personally responsible for their own behaviours; doesn"t consider social context for behaviours. Used in programs to change individual behaviours; typical approach in health programs. Must know stage clients are in; program process is linked to di erent stages; goal is to move clients up the ladder towards taking action; people move in predictable ways. Circular rather than linear: can enter/exit at any point. Behaviour of individuals a product of subtle, complex interrelationship b/w people and their environments (bronfenbrenner model) Frequently used in health promotion: addresses both the underlying determinants of health behaviours and methods of promoting change.
