HECOL333 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Blanket Stitch, Hookah, Satin
Document Summary
Cloth is cut in equal intervals and folded to the inside. Shape is cut out from main body of fabric. Used to make quilts, banners, clothing and other articles. Fabric is wrapped around paper, fabric stitched together and then paper is removed. Creating quilts became social events; almost always done in groups. Padded work by native americans in the niagara falls region. Flat (lies on surface of the fabric)- running, satin and cross-stitch. Knotted (leave a raised or studded pattern on the surface)- french and pekin knits. Linked and looped - chain stitch where the rst stitch is held in place by subsequent stitch. Stitches can be used in several ways to create di erent e ects. Reinforce and decorate an edge (button hole stitch, blanket stitch and eyelet stitch) Outline a shape (running stitch, chain stitch or couched threads) Fill an area (satin stitch or leaf stitch) Back over missed areas with a di erent colour.
