One of the oldest crafts practiced by man. Opening a shed with a shed stick on a single-heddle loom. There are 3 basic methods of interlacing the warp and weft together plain (tabby) weave. Used for making textiles for everyday wear and use from ne cotton muslin to heave-duty hemp canvas used for sails twill weave. Thick, rm fabric with distinctive texture of diagonals. Used for making kilts, shawls and blankets (wool), outdoor and working clothes (cotton) Produced with the use of a discontinuous weft. Used for making shawls, carpets, wall hangings, decorative & pictorial clothing. Used for making hardwearing blankets and cloaks bags, belts and blankets. Warp threads are obscured and dominated by more densely packed or heavy weighted wefts. Common pattern - horizontal stripes and reverse patterns (when complimentary wefts used) Used to make ponchos, wraps, blankets and bags. Woven in silk or linen in 1 colour satin-weave textiles with occasional use of twill binding system.
