Yarn production - brief history of spinning ! Earliest production of yarn! before humans had tools for spinning, they twisted bres together in simple ways to form yarn! it is likely that the earliest techniques involved merely rolling bres together between:! The hand and other part of the body - usually thigh ! the twisted length of yarn was stored on a stick which eventually evolved to function as a spindle ! Early developments ! in india, sometime between 500 bc and 750 ad, the spinning process was mechanized by adding a drive wheel to turn the spindle ! known as the charkha wheel! James hargreaves invented the spinning jenny in 1764! Richard arkwright added water power to the spinning frame about 1770 ! Samuel crompton created the spinning mule in 1779 - invention tended by one worker could equal the production of 200 hand spinners. many revolts against the machines!
