HECOL370 Lecture Notes - Lecture 17: Knitted Fabric, Body Contouring, Test Method
Document Summary
Skin has high elasticity, but as we age, it looses its elasticity. Fabric work close to the skin"s surface, as in tight tting garments, must also be elastic. It should elongate to accommodate body movement and then recover. If elasticity is lost, the fabric will remain stretched and baggy. To ensure comfort and ease of movement, a certain amount of extension is needed for fabrics worn close to the skin. Stretch is the ability of a textile fabric to. Extend when a pulling or distending force is applied. And recover relatively quickly and fully to its original dimensions when the force is removed. Fabrics can be used in closer tting garments b/c they have reduced resistance to body movements. Or made from stretch yarns ( lament yarns textured for stretch) Knitted fabric in structures that allow for extension and recovery. Usually knits have >15% elongation, but they can also be rigid (warp knits)
