Lecture 3: injury epidemiology legislation in the workplace. Study of the distribution and determinants of varying rates of diseases, injuries, or other health states in human populations for the purpose of identifying and implementing measures to prevent their development & spread (caine et al. , Not what the disease/injury is, but also what caused it. Focus is on causes & how to prevent in regard to groups rather than an individual. Equipment, pre-event: re ective jacket or arm-band, good quality running shoes. Equipment, post-event: cooling gel for sore knees etc. Models of injury control pre-event, event, post-event ten basic strategies for injury prevention. Many types of injuries equipment speci c to injury is important. May be for safety and help prevent or minimize injury severity. Identify or establish data sources appropriate to the surveillance of injuries by external causes. Monitor & investigate signi cant trends in speci c injuries for di erent age & sex subgroups of populations under surveillance.
