Document Summary
3 shelves along the lateral walls (superior, middle and inferior nasal choncha) Nasal septum formed by ethmoid bone. 3 nasal edges (superior, middle and inferior), located on the lateral wall of the nasal cavity. Air filled cavities in the ethmoid, sphenoid, frontal and maxillary bones in the skull. Lined with mucous membranes and open into nasal cavity. When chambers are open, people do not speak dully like they do when they have a stuffy nose, lightening the skull to give off a nice voice. Contains tonsils (lymphatic tissue) for defence/immune activity. Nasopharynx, oropharynx, laryngopharynx back of the mouth area consists of pharyngeal arch and uvula entrance to the trachea and the esophagus. Acute hemorrhage from the nostril, nasal cavity or nasopharynx. Conduction of air into the lower respiratory tract. Protection of airway from swallowed material (epiglottis) Pitch depends on the diameter, length and tension of the vocal cords. Children have tender, short vocal cords (creating a high pitched sound)
