Physiology : the study of the functions of the body from all levels. Tissues : group of cells with similar structure and function. Organs : combination of two or more tissue types. System : various organs with similar or related functions. Ability of a cell/ organism to regulate its internal conditions (dynamic equilibrium) - using feedback systems. Not a constant situation (changing within normal limits) Ex. normal body temp is 37*c (varies a bit - 1/2*c, but is still normal) Body cavities : pleural (lungs), pericardial (heart), peritoneum (abdominal), joints. Internal conditions in the ecf - rst to react to change. Brain gets information from the body uid - sends impulse to structure - body returns to homeostasis. Ecf - interstitial uid is essential for normal cell function. If the changes are corrected, the icf is not affected. Homeostasis is essential for the survival of cells.
