Social ecological theory: health is influenced by the interplay among individuals or communities and their surroundings (family, community, culture, physical and social environment) Adaptation (what people do to adapt to the demands of context) Succession (interventions are influenced by the history of the setting with its norms, values policies and social structures. Cycling of resources (interventions must build on existing stregnths of individuals, groups, communities and institutions) Interdepedence (settings are system, and changes in one aspect of the setting influences other aspects) Encompass specific theories at each ecological level, which range from the individual level at the core to the societal level.
