Document Summary
Methods of explanation: ultimate goal of scientific research is the discovery of causal relationships between properties, accomplished by studying patterns of variation in measures that we take by applying variables, variable = a property whose value can vary across individuals over time, i. e. : thing that is manipulated in an experiment, i. e. : response to the manipulated variable, i. e. : does insulting somebody reflect the changes of that individual being willing to do you a favor. Ref table 2. 1 demonstrates 2 variables (one manipulated and one responding) and in essence a correlation: two variables are said to be correlated when variations in the value of one variable are synchronized with variations in the value of the other, positive correlation = both variables move in the same direction (both values either increase or decrease) i. e. : children"s age and height decrease in correlation to each other, negative correlation = as one variable increases, the other.
