Document Summary
Learning - the acquisition of knowledge, skills, or responses from experience that result in a relatively permanent change in the state of the learner. Classical condition: ex. pavlovian dog salivating study. Operant conditioning: ex. making rats do something for a reward. We know why it is important, we don"t know how yet. Don"t need the animal to respond before presenting a reward. Examine general processes while using lightly controlled conditions. Ivan pavlov"s experiment: initially studying salivary glands. Dogs salivated to many non edible things (sand, pebbles) Eventually just the sight of those non edible things caused salivation. Objects have many features (tactile, sight, smell, etc. ) Any feature can become associated with drooling. Classical conditioning: a neutral stimulus produces a response after being paired with a stimulus that naturally produces a response. Unconditional stimulus (us): a stimulus that will produces a response that is not conditional on any sort of training (ex. food)
