Document Summary

Our senses allow us to understand and engage with the world. Ie eye-witness testimony, airport screening, radar operator, designing signage, driving, playing sports etc. Trandsuction: transmit outside signal into an electrical potential. Can be broken down into six sequential steps. The same input may be perceived differently by different people (or even by the same person at different times); is no (cid:862)endpoint(cid:863) Cross-modal assoc that are involuntarily triggered upon sensing certain stimuli (ie hearing colors, tasting sounds, etc); not something wrong, just different perspective. Does not change, will always assoc a certain color for a given number. Cross-wiring theory: activate normal corresponding circuits, but also other onesz. Assoc can be w/n the same modality (ie grapheme-color: letters/numbers and colors, mirror- touch synaesthesia experience touch when see it), or across (ie chromesthesia, sound and color) Can also be temporarily drug-induced (lsd, mescaline, psilocybin: all affect serotonergic activity) Absolute threshold: intensity at which stimulus can be detected 50% of the time.
