Nurture: is it based on the environment in which you"re raised. Chromosome: molecule of dna that contains many genes. Egg and sperm each have 23 chromosomes and together form a new cell with 46 chromosomes. These code for the production of amino acids that form proteins. Sex-linked traits: genes that are carried on the sex chromosomes. Genotype: specific genetic makeup, present at birth in your dna and generally doesn"t change. Phenotype: observable characteristics (physical expression of a gene). It can be altered by other genes or the environment. Ex: how tall you "can" grow vs how tall you "actually" grow. Dominant genes: characteristic displayed if one gene in the pair is dominant. You only need one of the genes in the pair to have this trait for it to be expressed. Recessive genes: is displayed when both genes contain the recessive trait. The only way this can be expressed is if both genes in the pair have this trait.
