Document Summary

Psych 104 lecture #23 learning and adaptation pt. Associate 2 stimuli; one stimulus comes to produce a response. Food (unconditioned stimulus - us) will produce a ur (saliva) Us: elicits a particular reflexive or innate response (ur) without prior learning. Ur: response elicited by specific stimulus (us) without prior learning: learning trial: food and tone are paired. After several trial, dog salivates even though there is no food. Cs must be paired multiple times with uc to establish a strong. Cr: tone becomes cs rapidly when more amounts of neutral, sequence and time interval of cs us pairing stimulus is given. Learning occurs most quickly with forward short-delay pairing. Cs appears 1st and still present when us appears. Forward trace pairing: tone comes on and off and food presented afterward. Optimal for cs to appear 2 or 3s before us. Less rapid conditioning when cs and us presented at same time, or simultaneous pairing.
