Lecture 14 oct 17 : treatment of psychological disorder. Biological: relieve by directly altering bodily processes. If nothing else helps(like drugs and psychotherapy) at all, the last 2 are done. Often people are experiencing diverse e ects form the medication and the side e ects are incredibly negative. Maybe worse than the symptoms before they started medication. Where psychotic symptoms dominate: bizarre behaviour, hallucination, delusion. Less like to be readmitted to hospitals once they"ve taken it. Issue: many people will get o the drugs and have issues agin. Many people go o and do not have reoccurrence. These people are relatively unknown to doctors since they don"t come back again. Most of these dogs decrease activity of dopamine in brain. May not work so well for negative symptoms (lower motivation, drives, etc etc) But could be marketing by drug companies. Current research done by public funds - shows no strong evidence that atypical drugs are better overall.
