Concern for others, trusting: vs. selfish, antagonistic. Predicts: empathy, social acceptance, prosocial, lower income, resolve disagreements via acquiescence. Prosocial, compassionate: the social" brain, medial frontal cortex; superior temporal sulcus; temporal parietal. Agreeableness has been related to brain regions involved in social information processing, especially empathy (experiencing other people"s emotions) and theory of mind (being able to take someone else"s perspective and understanding what that person might be thinking). There"s a real buzz in the air in the mainstream and academic worlds about a hormone called oxytocin. It"s being called variously: the cuddle, love, generosity and trust hormone. Believe it or not, you can even buy it online as a nasal spray called liquid. Researchers discovered some time ago that sniffing oxytocin boosts its levels in the human brain. It"s well known that oxytocin is a powerful hormone but the reason for all the excitement is the publication of a series of research studies that reveal some of oxytocin"s other powers.
