Erp"s are a subset of eeg, they are deflections from eeg"s that are event related. The good thing about eeg and erp"s is that you can record them in virtually real time. With eeg we can tell exactly when things are happening and with mri we can tell exactly where they happen within the brain. Inject substance that absorbs x-rays less or more than surrounding tissue. Constructed from measurement of waves that h atoms emit when activated within a magnetic field. Scan is an image of levels of radioactivity in various parts of one horizontal level of brain. Function is imaged using signal created from interaction between oxygen and iron in blood. Measures changes in magnetic fields on surface of scalp. Applies a brief, strong magnetic field that alters neural activity. Can either activate or deactivate brain structures. Each complex cognitive process results from combined activity of simple cognitive processes.
