Has its roots partly in the psychoanalytic perspective. Started off by examining how infants interact with and are affected by other people: theory grew to viewing adult personality as a reflection of the same forces that are critical in infancy. Symbiosis- a period in which an infant experiences fusion with the mother. Should combine emotional availability with a gentle nudge towards independence. In the future, the child will view its mother through this image and will generalize this image to other people: what (cid:373)atters is(cid:374)"t (cid:449)hat happens in childhood but what the child experiences as happening. The more someone resembles your significant other, the more you react to that person as though there were that significant other.
