Wildlife Rehabilitation Society of Edmonton - Compassionate care for
injured, orphaned, and contaminated wildlife: Kim
•focus on injured and vulnerable birds.
•non-profit organization, donor funded, supported by the City of Edmonton.
•1997 - Wildlife Rehabilitation Society of Edmonton established.
•does not rehabilitate large ungulates, or carnivores (such as coyotes).
•educate the public on importance of wildlife populations within communities.
•balance between healthy wildlife populations and human populations.
•40-45% of the animals come in get released (pretty good considering a lot of the
animals that come in are seriously injured in critical condition).
Alberta Fish and Game Association: Martin
•1990s - Fire to clear the land, fish and game was plentiful.
•1908 - AFGA begins.
•the need to protect land and reestablish habitat was realized site early.
•foster common conservation goals (hunters and anglers).
•mission statement - promote through education and programs, the conservation and
utilization of fish and wildlife and to protect and enhance the habitat they depend
upon.
•provide Albertans an opportunity to get involved with conservation through
stewardship activities.
•Antelope corridor enhancement - barbed wire/page fences create difficulties, lower
strand is removed and use smooth wire a little higher up so that the antelope can get
through (northern Alberta).
Zoo’s and Wildlife: Dean
•history of zoos - first recorded zoo in 3500 BC (Egypt, Aztecs, Myans, Romans).
