SOC100 Lecture Notes - Lecture 14: Heteronormativity

34 views1 pages

Document Summary

People hide parts of themselves to avoid stigma. There are many types of men and women out there. People take for granted that you are a man or woman and stereotype likes and dislikes. Social structures play in the favour of heterosexuals. Think about the types of structures and languages that we have that lump people into one type or another. Sexuality comes with a lot of labels. The problem with labels : they are always incomplete. X is a woman: it is a part of what x is but they don"t tell all of it. Characteristics can be both visible and invisible. Can be genetic or anatomic (how you look like) Fine with it and do not want to make a choice. Not blaming guys or that guys are the problem. Doesn"t have to necessarily come from men. Its a spark in the course of an interaction.
