This theory divides the entire labour market into primary and secondary labour market. The labour market has become more vulnerable - increasingly hard to nd a full time job. In todays market (since 1980s), full time job no longe means bene ts. 20-30 years ago full time job was highly correlated with be ts but not anymore. More than 30 hours = full time. 1976 to 2016 (more than 40 years) - in canada throughout those years full time employment has remained about the same (% of work force in full time) Our work force has about 18 million people. About 76% are full time and 18% are part timers. To have some unemployment is bene cial for economy. The 6% unemployed: they put pressure on the labour market and drive cost of labour down : no ght for wage/bene t. Orange: the % that could not nd a full time job even though they want to.
