Document Summary
Women as a % of adults charged with criminal code offences (1979 - 2009) Of all adults charged with crime, this is how much were women. I(cid:296)crease i(cid:296) (cid:377)o(cid:295)e(cid:296)"s propert(cid:383) cri(cid:295)e ca(cid:296) be e(cid:382)plai(cid:296)ed b(cid:383) decrease i(cid:296) men. Ho(cid:377)e(cid:376)er, this does(cid:296)"t (cid:295)ea(cid:296) that (cid:377)o(cid:295)e(cid:296)"s propert(cid:383) cri(cid:295)e is increasing, just their share is. Rate of adult males charged by police by offence category (1979 - 2009) Rate of adult females charged by police by offence category (1979 - 2009) Violent offences in women have increased, and continues to increase up until 2001. Despite increases, we do not see this trend in homicides specifically. Early justice system was used as a means of enforcing sexual codes for girls. Double standard of behaviour for boys and girls. Idea that females are treated leniently by the cjs bc police, prosecutors, judges, etc are predominantly male and have a gracious attitude toward women.
