Purpose: to gather archives to educate canadians to inspire reconciliation. Their final report was submitted in 2015 with 94 calls to action. Began ~ 1840s; the impetus for the schools: to kill the indian in the child churches were contracted by the government to run the schools: anglican, united, presbyterian and catholic churches involved. >130 residential schools in canada; the last one closed in 1996. >150,000 first nations, m tis and inuit children were removed from their families and placed in residential schools.
