Roles = integral to society; society has to manage that risk. Role created in society to deal with people with biological condition and necessarily. Is appeasable: unwritten social contract we signed that we = okay with how society fxns. Crisis/ripple effect can damage all; necessary for each of us to play our roles. New needs are ided and new roles are filled to fill those gaps. Sense that society = on tract of development and becoming more complex, creating new: structural functionalism. Social arrangements exist b/c they benefit society: ways looking at how society = organized; like status quo; this is how society is organized = good for now. Each part contributes to the well-being of the whole (functional interdependence) Social hierarchy: inequality is desirable: do not give same rewards; depending on task.
