In forster, for next week, ask: what contemporary inventions, things from everyday life, do you see reflected in the story, what sort of critique is at play in the story. In canticle: monks control tech, monks have a particular social thing as well, makes for interesting interplay. Introduction to sts: what is sts, mcginn, historian and sts scholar, a new field, only a few decades. Comprised of several different disciplines that have been people who does it (eg. like investigating police brutality) so that you stand at a distance to the above and beyond something else. Distance is supposed to grant more objectivity really have that: impetus is a kick in the pants towards something. What pushed sts into the academy? something was problematic and then people figured they should pay attention and think around for a long time. The history of science and the philosophy of technology are older than sts.
