Chapter 14, the sun :our star, what is the sun, sun is star, other stars are really far away hency the dim light, has a sharp edge, but a sphere. Sunspots: regions on the sun that are cooler than the other surface, shine less bright, temperature of 4000k. Very bright but not as bright as the surface: when looked at/filtered through a safe brightness, the spots appear darker when you compare. Laser light is the most mono-chromatic light: what explains the sun"s sharp edge. If the surface of the sun is 5800 k, the matter is a very hot gas or a plasma: the outer layers of the sun suddenly transition from completely opaque to transparent. Just before you can see the photosphere from behind the moon, there"s a red layer just outside the photosphere: red light is the red emission line of hydrogen, called the chromosphere.
