Kenneth burke"s theory of life is a drama, and can be understood in dramatic terms. Life is a drama, which involves conflict and division that threatens the existing order in which owners define the terms of work in ways that suit them (ex. a strike threatens order because owners cant control them) Drama involves scenes that invite or discourage specific action by actors (ex. A news conference is one sided, while a labour negotiation takes opinions from workers) Conflict inherent in drama results in suffering and gives birth to new ways of understanding self, others and situations. All things have substance, (general nature or essence of a thing, distinct core) and our substance is who we are. The substance of each person is the basis of human communication. Communication is how we enhance our consubstantiality (my substance interacting with your substance) We can only understand one another if there is a overlap in substance.
