Amerindians or indigenous peoples migrated into the realm from north and middle. America: founded societies in many diverse environment, adaptations created many distinct regional culture, some established in high-altitude valleys of andes mountains called altiplanos. Inca: altiplano society centred at cuzco, expert builders, farmers etc, extensive empire, unified by roads and bridges, easily taken over by small army of spanish invaders rigid class structure and highly centralized. Isolation labour for plantations: distance and physiographic barriers. Iberians no interest in developing new world, only extract riches. Independence: europeans who made new world their home-rebelled, spanish colonies-took advantage of some territories from central control, viceroyalties split into 9 independent states, cooperation-begun in the past 20 years. Pre-columbian population: amerindians societies inhabited highlands, lowlands, riverbanks, and harsh environments. Contemporary population: amerindian-eradicated by europeans disease and warfare, most europeans stayed near the costs, andes-legacy of the incas.
