Landless working folk in the eighteenth and early nineteenth century. *try not to use the term working class because there are so many layers to the working folk, and working class sounds very monolithic . The working folk had a wide array of varied skills, from industrial to agricultural. The increase in working folk came from the population growth, specifically the movement of the working forces from the country into the cities. Up to about 1830, this period is a painful and difficult period of adjustment for the people who work. There was a french revolution, russian revolution, multiple revolutions around europe and the world. There is a debate about the standard of living. Edwin chadwick who argued that the standard of living was fine other than a little bit of unsanitary environments could have been biased, as he brought about the public health act of 1848.
