Hsts 367 slavery and abolition september 26, 2016. Prior to this process of abolition, slavery existed pretty much everywhere. So when it finally ends in the 19th century, there had been slavery for about 300 years. The many different revolutions lead up to the abolition of slavery. In 1813 there was a gradual start of the abolitionist movement in all colonies. In the first half of the 18th century people began to stop viewing slavery as something moral or legitimate to a radical shift where it is considered unnatural, immoral and illegitimate. There are lots of changes taking place during this period including the independence of the u. s. (however abolition of slavery did not occur with independence, like in the spanish colonies, it required civil war). Civil wars were not about abolition but they weakened slavery. 1808 the end of the slave trade in all british colonies.
