KNES 260 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Hepatic Artery Proper, This Groove, Vasodilation
Document Summary
Names of tubes and arteries correspond to either the location of the body they are in or it could be the organ to which they deliver blood to or carry from. When we want to deliver blood to the thoracic (upper chest region), our thoracic aorta delivers lots of blood into intercostal arteries. Thoracic aorta branches o into multiple intercostal arteries, that go into the ribs or thoracic cage. Every time a branch comes o another artery or vein or if it splits, the branch gets a new name. Thorax can also get blood from subclavian artery: comes o brachiocephalic trunk. Left and right arteries branch o into internal thoracic artery that runs on anterior side of thoracic cage. These internal thoracic arteries are good to use for bypass surgery because if we take one away there are still multiple anastomoses with intercostal arteries that can make due for the missing artery.
