Utilitarian: - continue living is not right because nh is negative - dying has a nh of zero - continue to live is permissible right -> permissible acts -> wrong 23-24: the only freedom 18: the only purpose. Depriving or impeding other"s pursuit of happiness = harming others. The liberty harm principle: an individual is entitled to pursue happiness in her own way as long as it does not cause harm to others. Note: principle applies only to competent adults - not to children - not to mentally ill. Great value is placed on individuals" liberty to pursue happiness in their own way. Individuals are different with regards to what"s going to make them happy. Mill: urges us to attempt to persuade others to not choose x if x is thought to be unwise.
