Ecosystem services: natural processes or properties of ecosystem that produce some measurable economic benefit to humans or (simply as benefits provided by ecosystem functions) ex. Concerning human health and welfare and how its impacted by different environmental management strategies. Benefits that the ecosystem provides including agro-ecosystem services: supporting services: Practical decision-making and consideration of service trade-offs now affects the market place. Ecosystem services are not fully captured in commercial markets. Due to this ecosystem services are rarely considered from economic and political perspectives. Establish an initial framework that can be used for further analysis. Are environmental and economic arguments mutually exclusive. Will it be possible to place a value on such intangible things. How is value determined and how is it measured. Economically may not be possible to attach a monetary value. Two approaches: direct subsidy, treat as a commodity- similar to carbon trading. Environmental conservation based on restoring and protecting ecosystem services.
