Cardiac cycle: repeating pattern of contraction and relaxation, systole =contraction, diastole = relaxation/filling, 2 step pumping both atria contract at the same time pushing the blood into the ventricles, ventricles contract soon after. Comparing contractile and autorhythmic: pacemaker potential = autorhythmic = slight and gradual increase in (+) potential due to leakage with no stable resting membrane potenetial. Controlling heat contraction: sympathetic, stimulates heart rate by stimulating sa node, stimualtes velocity of av node with shorter delay, increases contraction force, higher release of ca2+ from sarcoplasmic stores, reduces contraction time. Cardiac output: measure of volume of blood pumped per minute. Regulatin of stroke volume: volume of blood ejected per contracton, =end diastolic volume (edv- amount of blood to start with) end systolic volume (esv amount of blood left) If kidneys are excreting more sodium, water follows and loweres blood pressure.
