Document Summary
Maintenance of a constant internal body environment through coordinated responses of organs and systems that compensate for changes in the body environment. Mammals and birds are hemeotherms, which are warm blooded animals that maintain body temperature within narrow limits; high and low temperatures are not tolerated, a constant must be maintained. A core body temperature protects vital organs, and can be measured by rectal thermometer. It is influenced by the external environment, exercise, and metabolism. The body is divided into the core areal and the outer areal, the core areal must be maintained for the survival for the animal. The thermoneutral zone is the area of ideal temperature of the core body temperature. If the thermoneutral zone decreased the animal must produce heat through activity, if the temperature the animal must give off heat through panting. Hyperthermia (heat stress) :generally fatal, cells cannot function (enzymes and proteins denatured) However, blood circulation and respiration fail = death.
