Document Summary

Have diferent ways to respond to glucose. Mutaions that have happened in the original glucose transporter, have diferent km"s. Know physiological roles of glut1-4, will talk about (also know about glut5, fructose transporter, but will not focus on) Every cell in the body have the same genome. Glut1 is in most cells: km around physiological range. Glut2 looks ater blood glucose in body: high km, very responsive to glucose, will take up a lot of glucose when blood glucose is high, will release glucose when blood glucose is low. Glut3 in the brain has a low km, does not respond well to blood glucose: at vmax most of the ime, does not change its uptake, will always get it. Glut4 is the main glucose transporter for muscle & adipose: responds to insulin, similar to glut1, changes in physiological range to blood glucose levels.
