Other canine athletes: field competitors, agility competitors, military working dogs, detector dogs, drugs, explosives, accelerants illegal contraband, search and rescue, assistance dogs. Successful athletes: stamina, healthy, well-conditioned, able to withstand stress, teachability, desire, motivated, driven, olfactory acuity, sensitive, discriminatory. Sensory support (olfaction, auditory) sources and amounts of dietary fat. Energy need also differ dramatically, and ways in which you provide that energy differs greatly. Mainly oxidative fiber types *type i and iia. Metabolize fatty acids ~2x the rate in humans. Type ii become fatigues more rapidly than type i fibers. Type i reactive for longer periods of time; fuel sources also differ. Large proportion of type i fibers which work slower but last much longer good for endurance.
