Holism: any single aspect of culture is integrated with other aspects of culture how they connect, kinship and economic and political systems. Ethnology: cross-cultural analysis of a particular topic uses ethnographic work to get a particular point of view. Ethnography: deep study and description of one particular cultural group (autobiography of a culture) Fieldwork: the first hand experience of people being studied involves integration in the community through long term residence and obtaining knowledge of language and customs while maintaining your role of observer. Informants: people that observe and report back, can be like a family. Participant observation: must observe everything going on in that community and be a part of it and report back later (similar to informants) Linguistics historical (how language and language groups change over time), sociolinguistics (relationship between language and social interactions), formal (grammar, syntax)
