Fred wilson serves as a good example of representational critique. Issue of representational critique embedded in identity politics. Museums as institutions ignores/showcases certain identities, presenting hegemonic identities. Effort in new museology" to figure out language for museum architecture and space: language of displays (labels, catalogues, etc. , presenting what they think is important/unimportant. 1980s onwards there were several controversial things occurring: people started protesting exhibits, racial/feminist critique came to play, culture war responses to museums were part of that. Staged a friendly sit in with ancestors: but hated raft of medusa, was seen as a misrepresentation of their actual creation story. Museum had to protect the artwork from being destroyed. Small, low-budget, neighbourhood museums, often concentrating on the culture of everyday life or local heritage. Since wwii there has been a large influx and interest of museums. Corporate museums, the development of museum franchises , blockbuster shows , iconic landmark architecture, super-star museums and meta-museums .
