BIOL 1070 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Convergent Evolution
Document Summary
When did an adaptation evolve in a lineage: phylogenetic analysis of trait evolution. Inherited from common ancestor: homoplasy? (convergent)- independent evolution of a trait, eyes are common across mammals: some lineages lost it or multiple lineages evolved it. Eg vertebrae is ancestral to the group or involved independently among all the groups (most likely ancestral) Make assumptions of historical evolution across things. If you group shapes first versus color, you"re saying shell shape is more constrained and harder to change over time. Lures: more complex if you want a specific fish, if theres not a lot of fish, youd want specific so youre better at attracting the one. In an area with a lot of fish, you would want to be simple so its not too specific so you can get fish.
