Document Summary

Types of interactions happening and how they"re affected by the level of biodiversity (more stable with more species) Concepts from evolution: how did we get more/fewer species in a lineage, Diversity- number of dif species, also called species richness. Disparity- contrasted with diversity, how dif they are from each other from some viewpoint. Mammals: not many species but are very different from each other. Beetles: lots of species but not very different: generally, not both at same time. What we might want to know about biodiversity. What determines where species are found etc. No one knows: lots of areas we haven"t explored: amazon rainforest, oceans, hard cause it fluxes since new things are forming and evolving, some are very small. Species: things that can hybrid or are asexual so you can"t define it as things that can reproduce together. In a steady state situation, rate of speciation= rate of extinction. You can increase either rate somehow eg mass extinction.
