Document Summary

Protein is synthesized from the er into the golgi changing a bit in every level and then sent off the cell membrane. Lysosome is just a plasma membrane: ph is very low on the inside a lot of protons on the inside. Atp pumps (atpase) transport h+ into the lysosome to make the interiors acidic. Has to be acidic for the specific enzymes to function appropriately. Are sugar coated: autophagy = organelle turnover garbage is taken out of the cell. Autophagic vacuole is derived from the er. It will engulf the organelle that needs to be destroyed (degraded into a residual body released (to outside the cell) or retained) Forms a autophagasome: plant vacuoles similar characteristics as a lysosome. Contains active transport systems there generate high ion concentration interior. Takes up ~90% of the cell volume. Storage solutes and macromolecules, chemical storage, isolate toxic compounds, sequesters pigments.
