Drugs are categorized based on safety and abuse concerns, and the ability of any person to understand and execute directions for their use. Categorizing drugs dictates how the drug is ordered or prescribed by a physician for dispensing by a pharmacy and how the drug is obtained by the patient. Din shows that the drug has been approved to be safe and efficacious. Includes prescription drugs, narcotics, controlled substances, and targeted substances. Abuse potential but not as harsh as for harder drugs such as morphine. Prescription is not needed for sale but the drug must be dispensed by a pharmacist behind the counter. Client can obtain a drug at the pharmacy without the need of a pharmacist. Need to talk to a pharmacist before one can obtain the drug. Includes unscheduled drugs that are not appropriate to be sold over the counter (ie, unscheduled drugs that are at higher doses)
