Effective communication: communication where the right people receive the right information. Chain of command: lines of authority and formal reporting relationship (worker->supervisor->manager-> ->ceo) Downward communication: information that flows from the top bottom of the organization. Vp -> plant manager -> cell leaders -> supervisors -> workers. Upward communication: information that flows from the bottom top. Horizontal communication: information that flows between departments or functional units, usually as a means of coordinating effort. Deficiencies in a strict chain of command communication. Filtering: tendency for a message to be watered down or stopped during transmission: upward filtering people afraid of bosses using this information against them, downward filtering usually due to time pressure or lack of detail. Slowness communication downwards and horizontally is really slow.
