Sometimes awkward design is done for a reason. The handle for train doors are on the outside. Why: safety slow is better, safety make the user think, history porters opened the doors for passengers. If it is convenient then people will use it, if you make something dangerous convenient it becomes a health hazard. Good design involves understanding how the artifact is really used.
