People also describes love and joy similarly. Roles of an attachment figure: secure base. When were not distressed, attachment system is not activated; we can pursue goals with confidence. You know they are supporting you and letting you do your own thing: safe haven. When distressed, our attachment system activates; motivated to seek attachment figure. Then attachment system deactivates; partner goes back to being a secure base: attachment figures will help calm you down in order to achieve your goals. Being a good attachment figure: secure base. Freedom for partner to make own mistakes.
